Richard Bienenfeld Architect, PC, founded by Richard Bienenfeld in 1978, is a medium-sized, full-service architectural firm located in New Rochelle, NY, just outside of New York City. The firm is comprised of a core of architects, designers, detailers, code experts, drafters and administrative personnel. During the past five years, the firm has been providing the service as "Executive Architect" in support of projects designed by some of the best-known national and international design firms. 

The firm has broad experience in a spectrum of building types over the past 40 years. We truly believe that our profession is best practiced through strategic collaboration of diverse professionals with a broad range of talent and expertise.


Founding Principal

Richard Bienenfeld completed his academic training in 1971, receiving a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Architecture from Syracuse University.

Since his graduation he has enjoyed a multi-faceted career as an architect, practicing principally in the New York City Metropolitan area. He is a member of the NCARB and has been licensed and practiced in Connecticut, New Jersey, California, Maryland, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Rhode Island, as well as New York State. Mr. Bienenfeld is a Corporate Member of the American Institute of Architects. His projects include municipal buildings, institutional buildings, corporate interiors, individual and multi-family residences, schools, office buildings, religious edifices, and health care and elder care facilities.

As a project leader who has four decades' expertise in every aspect of the practice of architecture, including building design, construction document production, building systems and technology, and client interaction, Mr. Bienenfeld brings a well-rounded and deeply-founded understanding of the broad and profound demands of the profession and its clientele.


Associate Principal

Sam joined the firm in 2004 and has over 16 years of diverse experience in the field of architecture. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Architecture from the New York Institute of Technology and came to the firm from Schuman, Lichtenstein, Claman & Efron. He has a wide variety of experience working on projects in the fields of housing, institutional, community, and religious buildings. He has worked on numerous projects utilizing and developing design, space and site planning skills and has the knowledge of current building techniques and systems with the familiarity to incorporate current technological systems in the process.


Senior Architectural Designer

In his career, Mark has taken full design responsibility at such firms as Mitchell-Giurgola where he was a Senior Design Partner for over twenty years and later at Perkins Eastman where he served as a Principal at their Connecticut office. Executed projects under his direction included the Volvo Corporate Headquarters in Sweden, the IBM Business School, and many other projects of similar scale.


Senior Architectural Designer

Edward Goytia studied Architecture and Computer Graphics at Carnegie Mellon University. He is a senior Project Director, Master Planner and Designer with over 25 years of experience on a wide-range of project types including residential complexes, facilities for the aging, hospitals, cultural and religious projects with values over $200M and scope over 750,000 square feet. His work has been featured in publications highlighting modern trends in architecture and garnered numerous AIA design awards.


Director of Interior Design

Margo received a Bachelor's of Architecture from Pratt Institute in 1985 after completing a Bachelor of Arts from the Catholic University of America in 1975. Before joining Bienenfeld Architecture, she managed her own design firm and freelanced for other architects and designers. Her work has been published in Metropolitan Home, "W" Magazine, and Home Magazine. She won the "Best of Neocon" award for her furniture designs and first prize for architectural photography at the Belle Levine Art Center.


Elissa Gelnick graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Architecture from Macaulay Honors College at the City College of New York (CUNY). After several summers as an intern at Bienenfeld Architecture, she joined the firm full-time upon her graduation. During this time, she has gained experience working on both residential and public buildings, and is currently training as a DOB Filing Representative.
